I have decided to offer the content of this great ebook for free if you view from the website.

Preface - Originally designed as a syllabus for teachers and students in the restling skills and techniques classes at Springfield College, the materials in this book have also been successfully used as a self-teaching manual by wrestlers and coaches throughout the country. The content and its arrangement is the result of many years of experience in developing an effective wrestling program.

    1. Introduction - This course is designed to provide the student with the experience, skills, and understanding necessary for effective participation in wrestling, so far
as it is possible to do in 30 lessons. The material for this course has been selected on the basis of the following factors:

    1. The student's skill, condition, and interest. (NEEDS)
    2. The course objectives. (OBJECTIVES)
    3. The prevention of injuries. (SAFETY)
    4. The development of a sound and favorable
      attitude toward the sport. (INTEREST)
    5. The rapid development of competence.  (PROFICIENCY)

    2. Warm-up & Conditioning - The mat drill is a mass-exercise activity that involves the practice of individual wrestling techniques. This drill is similar to the so-called football grass drill, except that the action applies to skills in wrestling. The members of the class space themselves over the mat area so that there is at least a double-arm interval between them.

    A. Start. The start is a standing position with the hands resting on the legs just above the knees.   The arms are straight and the weight of the upper body is resting on the hands.

    3. Wrestling Maneuvers - Throughout the thirty-eight sequences that follow, A performs the essential action against B's resistance. In the accompanying illustrations A is dressed in the black uniform and B in the white tights.

    1.  BLOCK FOR QUARTER NELSON

    A. START: QUARTER NELSON POSITION. A is on his hands and knees in the defensive referee's position.

    4. Holds & Maneuvers - This summary classifies holds and maneuvers according to their functions. The number listed with each refers to the maneuver where the action is described and illustrated.

    Sit-out and turn-in, 4
    Sit-out and turn-out, 17
    Stand-up, 28
Release for ankle and sit-out, 32

    5. Wrestling Analyzed - Proficiency  in sports is essentially and directly related to mechanical competence in the execution of motor skills and techniques. The laws of physics provide the basic principles to interpret the correct procedure for executing these skills and techniques. The following list of essential rules of action for wrestling indicates the relationship of these mechanical principles to efficient movement and control in this sport.

    6. Outline Thirty Lessons - Checking In. Weigh in all men in uniform (sweat clothes, shoes, over trunks). Class forms line in alphabetical order. The weights are recorded in roll book.

Briefly discuss wrestling and demonstrate the essential items in a match.

Emphasize contribution to growth and development including carryover and continuing values.

    Clarify various styles of wrestling:
